A Calming Box

IMG_1447.jpg

Sometimes it is hard to know what to do when we are experiencing feelings like anger, sadness or stress. Let’s help ourselves out by making a special box. The inside of your box will be filled with objects that will help you feel calm. The outside of the box you will decorate with pictures, colors and designs that are pleasing to you.

First, decorate the outside of your box. You might want to look in magazines for pictures that you like and make you feel happy. Or, you could simply cover your box in the colors that you like. Here is a list of materials that you might like to use to decorate the outside of your box:

  • A box with a lid  that is large enough to fit your items, like a shoebox, a tissue box, or a gift box.

  • colored tape

  • paint

  • stickers

  • old magazines

  • glitter

When you are done decorating the outside of the box, fill it with objects that help you feel calm. Look for things to squish, like playdough, or a stuffed animal to cuddle. Here are some ideas:

  • playdough

  • stress ball

  • something soft

  • legos (to build with)

  • bubbles

  • a treat

  • family photos
