Stay Home, Make Art

This blog provides art projects and other art resources to students during the spring 2020 school closures.

Stick Bound Books

This sketchbook is pretty easy to make and it looks really cool. You can use it to make sketches of things in nature, or use it as a journal to write and draw anything you want.

Materials

  • found stick

  • paper

  • hole punch

  • rubber band

Instructions

  1. Get four or five pieces of paper. Fold them in half and cut along the fold. Then, stack them together and punch two holes, one at the top, and one at the bottom.

2. Put one end of your rubber band through the top hole. I couldn’t find a rubber band, so I used a hair tie.

3. Put one end of your stick through the loop that is coming through the punched hole.

4. Put the other end of the rubber band through the bottom hole. You will have to bend your paper to do this.

4. When you have your rubber band through the bottom hole, put the other end of your stick through the loop that is coming out of the punched hole.

5. Now you have a blank book ready to go! I kept my cover pretty simple, but you can decorate it however you like!

6. Here is a sample page from my book. You can use this book any way that you would like. Perhaps you would like to draw or write about your feelings or your an idea you have. You could use it to record your dreams. You may keep it private or share it with others. The choice is yours.
